Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (IoT) represents one of the most significant and broad waves of technical innovation in our lifetime. IoT represents a next leap forward, where physical things containing a myriad of sensors report large streams of data about the world, serving as a new and primary resource for perception, analysis and data-driven action/response. This wave is already impacting you and your business on many fronts, such as wellness wearables, adaptive cruise control and lane-minders in 2017 cars, sport-casting by drones, natural language robotics (Alexa/OK Google) in your home, smart locks, public-space monitoring cameras, and robotic-assisted surgery, just to name a few.

This talk explores the current state of IoT across select industries representing its leading edge. The projected scale of the impact to significant business sectors is discussed. What mind-blowing innovations we can expect to see soon is examined. We’ll also explore how this new IoT data is fundamentally changing the shape of big data strategy, both in the cloud and at the edge.
